FRIDAY: Taste Yemeni Coffee at La Colombe

toddsmell-2This Friday at 1pm, we are hosting a very special public cuppings in NYC, DC, Chicago, and Philly to taste our new Yemeni coffee, a Red Marqaha from the Haraaz region.

Yemen has been producing coffee for more than 1200 years, and is considered the first commercial coffee source. Their famous port city, Mokha, inspired the name given to the coffee varieties passing through it and many years later, the chocolate coffee drink. Yemen continues to produce distinctive, unique coffee and La Colombe is glad for the opportunity to support the country’s coffee farmers.

This Yemeni coffee is bought as ripe cherries from the farmer and naturally processed on raised beds. Learn more about the natural method of processing coffee here. Because the coffee is dried in its fruit, this Haraaz Red Marqaha takes on a coveted raspberry jam quality.

In addition to tasting our new Yemeni coffee, the cuppings will also give you a chance to try our other coffees side by side. By tasting different coffees in rapid succession, it’s much easier to pick out the distinctive flavors and figure out which one you like best! See below for locations.

La Colombe @ SXSW 2015

“Y’all can go to hell, I’m going to Texas!”

We’re fixing to head down to Austin for SXSW Music Festival. We’ve never been, but we heard good things and decided to check it out. Here’s a preview of what we’re getting into:

espp-2

On Thursday 3/19, we’ll be posted up in front of East Side Pedal Pushers bike shop on East 5th Street. ESPP has been in the East Austin neighborhood for more than a decade, providing bike repairs and bike gear at a really decent price. We’ll be sampling our Pure Black cold brewed coffee and watching the people go by, so come visit!

Friday will find us at Friends & Neighbors, a boutique/café at 2614 E Cesar Chavez St. Our friends at Free People are kicking off festival season with a daytime music showcase, and they asked us to come by and keep it caffeinated. Details and RSVP for this event here: http://www.freepeople.com/fpfestivaldays/

But what about the music?! Here are the three acts we’re most excited to catch:

growl

Thursday, 3/19:

Growl at the You’re Here showcase

Ground Floor Theatre on Springdale

Growl is young, but not green. A few of their members have been on the Austin music scene since they were knee-high to a grasshopper. Their sounds amount to upbeat indie rock that throws it back to indie’s early days. None of the pretension, all of the fun.

Friday, 3/20:

Jamestown Revival at the Free People Festival Days showcase

Friends & Neighbors, 2614 E Cesar Chavez St.

Childhood friends and Texas natives Zach and Jonathan describe themselves as strongly-southern indie rock. Blending rock, folk, and high-lonesome country, Jamestown Revival has a timeworn appeal that will fit perfectly in this backyard showcase.

Saturday, 3/21:

Mother Falcon at the Sweetwater Brewing showcase

Peckerhead’s on 6th Street

Best described as an “indie chamber orchestra,” Mother Falcon’s twenty members take their classical training to another level. Everything from horns, to violins, to banjos, to a piano joins a solid core of cellos to form a soundscape that spans jazz, indie rock, hip hop and more.

Keep up with our SXSW shenanigans on Instagram and #PureBlackSXSW. See you soon, Austin!
